The 12th Guards Heavy Tank Regiment originated as the 21st Tank Brigade. In 1941, it was equipped with the heavy KV-1 tanks and was committed to the defense of Moscow in October, 1941. The regiment served throughout the war, from Ukraine and into central Europe, ending the war in Prague, Czechoslovokia.
